Hello, Just wanted to share some “unpopular” thoughts and feedback on BF2042(based mostly on Beta). I was really expecting some of them to be discussed by content creators on YT and it was a bit weird that so many people started talking about specialist vs class rather than other things. And also, I just realized that the old forums are apparently shut down so please inform me if I shouldn’t post this here…
OK, let’s begin from the start and move forward as if we’re playing 2042 and going through some steps like a normal player:
1- The menu UI color combinations need some serious work(many players only talked about the in-game UI so I just wanted to point out that the menu UI, or mostly the Options UI, could use some work).
2- The Anti-Aliasing option is again, just like BFV, lacking any other options than TAA. Pls DICE, just let me turn it off.
3-Related to 2 . The game API was apparently locked to DX12(the famous WorldRender.LightTileCsPathEnable console command only works for DX11).
4- Related to 2 and 3 . The game runs extremely poorly and is so CPU intense which leads me to; A. maybe DICE would spend some more time on optimizations but I don’t see how they can boost performance by around 50% in the time left except by straight up “downgrading” the game(I have a 9700K and I can easily play BF1 and BFV on limited 144fps with barely any drops, but in 2042 beta I was averaging only around 70-80fps with really bad stutters at times), I just hope the 128 player modes can run better than what we saw. B. DICE can allow everyone on PC,PS5 and XONE series to play the “last gen” version of maps/modes. So it’ll be 64 players only and smaller maps and hopefully better performance even if 128p version remains poor…
5- Related to part B of 4 . Can we please have a “CLASSIC” playlist in 2042 with classic gameplay elements and 64P maps only; let’s say a class system instead of operators(preferably BF3 characters/guns that were leaked a few days ago) and removal of some 2042 features(as much as it doesn’t take hard effort from DICE)…And I know we have Portal but, I just want it to be there for the “MAIN GAME”, and also I fear portal might not remain as populated as main BF2042 so yeah…let’s hope we can.
6- REALLY IMPORTANT . I prefer to be short and straight on this one; there were no server browsers in the Beta, and with CoD/ACTIVISION pushing the “Skill Based MatchMaking” idea so hard(which if you don’t know what it is, just do a bit of research on YT or Google, it’s a very bad and inhumane matchmaking system which prefers the profit over player enjoyment from a GAME…), I was wondering it DICE/EA are pushing a similar system for 2042 where everything’s just locked behind a forced system and we have no way of browsing servers for at least a server with good ping…DICE pls, no SBMM(I don’t even think it’s possible with 128 players one on server…).
7- NOW we move on to the game itself : this part is mostly full of great ideas by other people who have shared their words already so I just want to point out a few things I was expecting to see which got me by a surprise;
A. Jet gameplay needs some REAL work. more than helicopters tbh.
B. Pls let us do the classic revives instead of changing it every time. BF3,BF4,BF1,BFH. They worked so why change it…
C. Picking up ammo/health from teammates; it was introduced in BFH, and returned only in BFV late in it’s life cycle which everyone loved and now again, it’s gone for 2042…
D. Bring back kit switching maybe? it can still be fun even with Specialist design and stuff…
…And more stuff others have already talked about related to core gameplay and such things.
Overall I really enjoyed the Beta and I’m glad DICE are trying out something totally new which can actually be fun, all I worry is that “too much fun” is not the best way to go; Everyone being able to do “Only in Battlefield” just to sell more copies…I’m kinda sceptical about that. I hope Battlefield 2042 will be the Battlefield I’ve been missing since 2018(and it actually felt much better than the whole BFV life span)…
