Here's my 'Da Intro'

Well, hi, hello.

I’m Al and I’m kinda a big deal. Okay, that might not be completely true. The only true bit is that I am Al. I’m an old school gamer who cut his teeth gaming when most of the people who read this were still clinging to their mommies - if they even existed at all.

I started out with stealing time on my Dad’s Amstrad CPC 464 and moved onto dropping 10p pieces into the arcade machines on games like Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtles, Golden Axe and Street Fighter. In 1990 I got my hands on a Sega Megadrive imported from Japan, and that changed everything, little 13 year old Al was hooked. I went from Megadrive to Super Nintendo, and then in 1994 I got my first real PC - with a 1gb Pentium Processor, it was state of the art. This opened up my eyes to the vast range of PC gaming. Notable titles for me were TIE Fighter (huge Star Wars fan, and GO EMPIRE!), Command and Conquer Red Alert, Tomb Raider, Sid Meier’s Civilization… It was the golden era of gaming.

I think we have been spoiled as gamers by the incredible improvements in technology. Immersive worlds, sprawling city-scapes, icons of pop culture like Grand Theft Auto.

Guys, I’ve travelled around the sun 47 times, and I don’t ever intend to stop gaming.

Welcome to the game talk forums!

Happy to have you here. Much like you I cut my teeth well before the internet was a thing.

My weapon of choice way back in the day was a Spectrum z48k.

Did you see that the Red Alert series (RIP Westood Studios), was recently released on Github - full source code (Electronic Arts · GitHub)
