Battlefield 6 to support 128 players + Cross Generation

Multiple reports coming out this morning saying essentially the same thing. The next Battlefield game, which we are calling Battlefield 6 for now, will support game modes that include up wo 128 players, and offer backwards compatibility with previous generations of consoles. I am looking at you PlayStation 4 and Xbox One X.

Interestingly, he said that 128 player game modes will be only for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles (and PC). So if you are running a last gen console, now might be a good time to start saving if you want to get in on the 128 player awesomeness.

The leaker of this nugget of information is Tom Henderson, and he said that the game will be a “full reboot” of the franchise.

When it comes to Battlefield 6 releasing on last-gen consoles, I understand there’s going to be a lot of people a little bit annoyed within the community because it essentially means that the current-gen version is going to be limited in some aspects.

However, I’ve been told that is simply not the case, and a completely different studio or a different part of [DICE] is working on the previous-gen version and it’s something that we simply should not be worried about.

What do you guys think about this latest Battlefield news?

As a follow up to this, something that I missed earlier, it looks like the name of the upcoming game will be

Battlefield

That’s it.

There is no mention here if it will support cross platform (i.e PC can play with consoles). This is something that more and more big titles now do (Rocket League and Fornite come to mind)

TO be honest, I think the technical details to get cross platform working for Battlefield would be a lot more difficult than getting them to work for Fortnite. Just the graphics in Battlefield are heads and shoulders above Fornite, but I will leave that to other more technical people to comment on.

I am not a tech wizard, just a lowly Timelord.

Hrmm, I had never tought about how difficult would be to “scale” for cross platform play in the Battlefield series. I think you are right. I would rather that the developers focus on the core game, and not on the networking component.
That being said, Battlefield is primarily a multi player game. The single player mode is generally seen as an afterthought in my opinion.
